Anthony Joshua ditches Sky for DAZN in "nine-figure" UK rights deal
DAZN and Anthony Joshua have confirmed a multi-year deal that will see the sports streaming company broadcast the British heavyweight boxing star's upcoming rematch with Oleksandr Usyk in the United KingdomAccording to a report by The Telegraph the global rights agreement with DAZN is worth a nine-figure US dollar fee that could earn Joshua hundreds of millions over the course of a contract. They further reportedthat the first fight covered in the contract will be with Oleksandar Usyk in August as the two boxers split a UK £100 million purse to fight for the IBF, WBA and WBO belts in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia
.AJ's previous promoters, Matchroom Boxing, headed by Eddie Hearn signed a global broadcast deal with DAZN last year, 2021, but the his star's home territory rights were tied up with Sky until after what turned out to be a huge defeat to Usyk at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in September last year. DAZN has broadcast AJ's fights in America since May 2018, ever since matchroom collaborated wit them for overseas fights a the same timeThe new agreement means that all of his future fights will now be broadcasted throughout the UK on DAZN network, likely via the pay-per-view (PPV) platform the media company launched last year. Joshua's agreement with DAZN reportedly includes a minimum requirement of two fights annually over a term that could reach five years long.
