Baby P's mother Tracey Connelly has been released from prison after being jailed in 2009 for his death
Tracey Connelly, the mother of Baby P, has been released from prison.In 2009, Connelly was jailed after admitting to causing or allowing the death of her 17-month-old son Peter.Peter, who is publicly known as Baby P, died at his home in Tottenham in 2007. Suffering from months of abuse, he had over 50 injuries, despite receiving 60 visits from social workers, police and health professionals.His injuries included abroken back, broken ribs, gashes to the head and a fractured shinbone.Connelly's boyfriend Steven Barker and his brother Jason Owen were also jailed for Baby P's death.
Barker was jailed for life with a 10-year minimum sentence for raping a two-year-old girl and a 12-year term over his role in Baby P's deathto run at the same time.
Owen got an unknown sentence with a minimum sentence of three years, which later increased to a fixed six-year term.
The mother of Baby P was releasedon licence back in 2013 but after breaching her parole conditions she returned to prison two years later.
Before her sentencing in 2009, Connelly wrote to the judge: "I have lost all I hold dear to me, now every day of my life is full of guilt and trying to come to terms with my failure as a mother," she said.
"I punish myself on a daily basis and there is not a day that goes by where I don't cry at some point."
Earlier this year when her release from prison was approved, Justice Secretary Dominic Raab told the House of Commons: "In light of the Parole Board's direction to release Tracey Connelly, I should inform the House that having carefully read the decision, I have decided to apply to the Parole Board to seek their reconsideration."
