Bride and Caterer Arrested for Allegedly Drugging Wedding Guests with Cannabis
A bride and her caterer from Florida, in the US, have been arrested by police for allegedly drugging food that wedding guests ate with cannabis.The bride Danya Svoboda and caterer Joycelyn Bryan face charges of tampering, negligence and delivery of marijuana. Police officers made the arrests after testing the food and drink that was at the wedding party.The wedding took place on 19th February in Longwood, in central Florida.
During the wedding, guests started complaining about experiencing stomach pains and vomiting. Several guests were transported to their local hospital for treatment. According to a police affidavit, one guest told officers he "felt tingly, his heart started to race, and [he] was having crazy thoughts".Another guest who attended the wedding thought her son-in-law had died and that her family was keeping vital information from her. The guest was taken to hospital and started behaving "loud and unruly and had to be given something to calm down".
In an incident report, responding duties wrote that most of the 50 guests present were "feeling weird", after eating meatballs, Caesar salad, tortellini, and "bread with an olive oil and herb dip".Police arrived at the scene and started investigating the incident. Svoboda was asked by police at the scene whether she had allowed for drugs to be put into the food, and denied it.Miranda Cady was a guest who attended the wedding party. She claimed that she had witnessed a catering staff member adding a "green substance" to a dish containing olive oil.
Cady also claimed the bride admitted to adding to cannabis to the olive oil while the pair were on the dance floor.The affidavit states: "It should be noted what Miranda Cady was referring to what is commonly referred to as marijuana 'shake' which is the small scraps that fall off of larger amounts of marijuana."The caterer, along with her staff, left the wedding party before police could take the opportunity to question them. Police left after collecting glassware and food to be tested, including chocolate covered strawberries, pudding desserts, and lasagna. Officials say that bread and lasagna later tested positive for THC, a psychoactive chemical in marijuana. Three guests also tested positive for the drug.The pair were arrested on Monday.
