Professors and couple, Ugur Sahin and Ozlem Tureci, from Germany, have come out and said they have had a "breakthrough" and will continue working, however were a little were hesitant to say they could find a cure for cancer.

The married couple have said that the development and continued success of the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine against Covid-19 "gives back to our cancer work".They co-founded a vaccine, BioNTech, back in 2008 in Germany, and were recently interviewed on the BBC were they explained how they had worked to pioneer many cancer immunotherapies.

Professor, Mr Tureci, when speaking to Kuenssberg on the show, commented that: "what we have developed over decades for cancer vaccine development has been the tailwind for developing the Covid-19 vaccine, and now the Covid-19 vaccine and our experience in developing it gives back to our cancer work."We have learned how to better, faster manufacture vaccines. We have learned in a large number of people how the immune system reacts towards mRNA. "She further claimed that the developments have also aided regulators to learn about mRNA vaccines and how to ensure they can work with then, stating that "this will definitely accelerate also our cancer vaccine."Partner, Prof Tureci, has taken a little more positive yet also cautious approach and argued that: "As scientists we are always hesitant to say we will have a cure for cancer." We have a number of breakthroughs, and we will continue to work on them.".
