Donald Trump's Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida was reportedly raided by the FBI on Monday.According to Sky News, the US Justice Department are investigating certain boxes that were to taken to Trump's property after his presidency ended.The boxes are said to contain items "marked as classified national security information".Trump said that the raid reflected the "dark times for our nation" and was "not necessary or appropriate".His full statement read: "These are dark times for our nation, as my beautiful home, Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach, Florida, is currently under siege, raided, and occupied by a large group of FBI agents."Nothing like this has ever happened to a president of the United States before."After working and cooperating with the relevant government agencies, this unannounced raid on my home was not necessary or appropriate."
Trump added: "It is prosecutorial misconduct, the weaponisation of the justice system, and an attack by radical left Democrats who desperately don't want me to run for president in 2024, especially based on recent polls, and who will likewise do anything to stop Republicans and Conservatives in the upcoming midterm elections."Fans of the former president reportedly surrounded the estate while playing music and beeping their car horns to show their anger towards the raid.Jim Whelan, 59, said: "It's another unjust thing like the made up impeachment hoaxes."
The police also parked their vehicles outside the property and directed traffic away from the estate.One officer told supporters: "Trump is not returning to Mar-a-Lago tonight. His trip has been cancelled."Trump's lawyer Christina Bobb told NBC News that him and his team have been "cooperative with FBI and DOJ officials every step of the way," and that the bureau "did conduct an unannounced raid and seized paper."
