A former Nazi concentration camp secretary has been found guilty of aiding 10,505 murders. Irmgard Furchner, 97, "aided and abetted those in charge" from June 1943 to April 1945 in the Stutthof concentration camp in today's Poland. As well as the 10,505 murders, she was also an accessory in five attempted murders. In a statement, prosecutors said:

"[She]aided and abetted those in charge of the camp in the systematic killing of those imprisoned there between June 1943 and April 1945 in her function as a stenographer and typist in the camp commandant's office"

.Irmgard was convicted on Tuesday morning in Germany and given a two-year suspended sentence. This means that she doesn't have to go to prison provided that she commits no further offences and complies with any requirements. Although Irmgard refused to answer questions in the trial, she apologised for what had happened in her closing statement. Her defence team had previously asked for her to be acquitted and argued that she didn't know about the systematic killings at the camp. However, Stutthof survivor Manfred Goldberg told Sky News: "It was impossible not to know what happened. There were bodies being carted openly through the camp."
