Heathrow Airport flooded with Luggage after luggage belt Issue

Heathrow Airport flooded with Luggage after luggage belt Issue

Hundreds of suitcases described as a "luggage carpet" and "a sea of bags" were piled up at Heathrow yesterday.

Passengers have been told that they may not get their luggage back for two days as the luggage belts in Terminal 2 at Heathrow airport have broke, leaving passengers stranded without their belongings. This unfortunate situation is just one of many of the issues citizens have been facing at airports.

Alongside this, there have been a growing number of cancelled and delayed flights at a number of airports, causing holiday-goers to become stranded and also pushing the capacity of people at airports. Some passengers at Heathrow airport had to fly without their luggage from their airport due to the technical fault at terminal 2. According to reports, hundreds of bags were piled up outside the terminal which also led to delays at check-in desks for some passengers.

A spokesperson for Heathrow Airport said: "Yesterday there was a technical issue with the Terminal 2 baggage system which has now been resolved.

"Passengers are now able to check-in as normal, but a number of passengers who departed from Terminal 2 yesterday may have travelled without their luggage.

"We are working closely with airlines to reunite passengers with their luggage as soon as possible.

"We're sorry there's been disruption to passenger journeys."

The situation follows many months of disruption for airline passengers as the UK's four-day platinum jubilee weekend celebrations as well as the half-term school holiday have meant a rise in demand which has heavily impacted airline services.
