On Friday evening, London based streetwear brand, Corteiz, tweeted that they wanted designer jackets in exchange for fans to get their hands on the new Bolo jackets.
This announcement of "Da Great Bolo Exchange" sparked a social media frenzy, leading the brand to go viral. Corteiz tweeted that the swap would take place on Saturday at 3pm. Only 50 Bolo jackets were available to get in the big swap.
On Saturday morning, the popular fashion brand tweeted that the designer jackets must be in good condition and that they would be independently verified.
The coordinates were posted to Twitter with a video showing the location of the swap to be in the Linford Christie Stadium car park in West London.
Lots of desperate fans queued up in the Linford Christie Stadium car park in order to get their hands on an exclusive Bolo jacket. Fans were wearing designer jackets with brands ranging from Moncler to North Face. The line spanned the length of the car park.
The demand was so huge that the 50 Bolo jackets were quickly given away. Corteiz tweeted the aftermath of the swap, showing a large pile of designer jackets and another photo tagging the brands that were among the pile.
Some people hailed it as a genius marketing strategy while others criticised the move and couldn't understand why someone would be willing to trade a designer jacket for a streetwear based brand.
