The unfortunate event occurred in the first lockdown of 2020, and Jordan Walker-Brown now 27, was left with a broken back after being racially profiled by officer Imran Mahmood. Despite officer Mahmood being cleared of previous bodily harm at trial May 2023, Mr Walker-Brown has also sued the Commissioner of Police of the Metropolis for compensation for the irreversible injuries he sustained. The Met Police admitted liability over Mr Walker-Brown’s claim during a hearing at the High court, and now the Met Police are facing a pay of millions in damages and court costs to Mr Walker-Brown.
Mr Walker-Brown’s budget for court costs was £1.26million, and Kate Lumbers, from Met police believes the claim being worth between £1million and £2million. Mr Walker-Browns budget was described as “eye watering” by Judge Master Richard Armstrong, who also said that the force were set to offer a “chunky seven-figure” pay out. Master Armstrong also added that due to Mr Walker-Brown being “tasered, causing him to fall from a wall, rendering him a paraplegic from the chest down is admitted” and that “this is a quantum dispute”. Since then, Ms Lumbers has asked the police for more time to look over the expert medical evidence to decide whether they wanted to challenge Mr Walker-Browns claim. Master Armstrong has made directions for the case to be heard in a 10-day trial in 2026.
