Police Admit Man who Died on Chelsea Bridge was Unarmed

Police have admitted that the man who died after being tasered on Chelsea Bridge was unarmed and NOT carrying a screwdriver.

This comes after widespread media reports followed a police briefing which stated that the 41-year-old victim, Oladeji Adeyemi Omishore was carrying a screwdriver at the time of the confrontation. This has been revealed to be untrue. The reports that Mr Omishore was armed with a screwdriver is was what ultimately justified the 3-time tasing of Omishore who would, unfortunately, fall into the River Thames and die in hospital. The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) confirmed that it was actually a plastic and metal firefighter that was being carried, and Omishore was never holding a screwdriver. The incident occurred after 9pm Saturday the 4th of June on Chelsea Bridge Road, in Chelsea.

Footage of the incident began circling online which showed two officers confronting the man, who was seen repeatedly falling to the ground and getting up after the Taser was discharged at him multiple times.

He then managed to completely get up before running to the side of the bridge, pulling himself over the edge and jumping into the water before any officer could get close to him.

Police were believed to have issued an immediate rescue operation before transporting Mr Omishore to the hospital where he was treated under critical condition before he eventually died.

IOPC's Sal Naseem said: "Our thoughts remain with Mr Omishore's family and all of those affected by his death.

"Our investigators continue to gather and analyse key evidence, including footage recorded at the scene and initial accounts from officers and members of the public.

"We would urge anyone else who may have witnessed or recorded any part of the incident, either on the bridge or after Mr Omishore entered the river, to get in touch with us without delay. It is important we understand all of the circumstances surrounding his death."
