The Duke of York and his ex-wife Sarah Ferguson have been named in a case that was brought before the court by Nebahat Isbilen, who has claimed that she was conned for almost £40 million by Selman Turk.Mrs Isbilen, the wealthy wife of a Turkish MP, came to live in Britain after her husband was jailed and would subsequently entrust her fortune (approximately £66 million) to Mr Turk.

She has claimed that her husband is a political prisoner within their homeland and consequently paid Prince Andrew £750,000 as a "gift" in an effort to receive assistance in getting a passport. An additional payment of £350,000 was allegedly made to the Duke, while another £225,000 has been said to have been transferred to his ex-wife.

Isbilen has claimed that Mr Turk was responsible for managing these payments during this period and that he would later misappropriate around £38 million of her fortune. The now ex-Goldman Sachs banker was given a People's Choice award through Prince Andrew's Pitch@Palance entrepreneurship programme at a ceremony at St James' Palace in 2019.

Currently, this case is still ongoing and no trail has as of yet taken place. However, in preliminary hearings it was alleged that substantial sums were paid to the Duke and Duchess of York.

Judge Halpern has said that barrister Dan McCourt Fritz, who is representing Mrs Isbilen, had told him that: "Mr Turk has provided explanations for approximately two thirds of these sums, most of which have been allegedly spent on professional or other fees or lost in bad investments"."No explanation at all has been given for the remaining one third," the judge added in his ruling. Prince Andrew has not yet commented on the incident and nor has he been accused of involvement in fraud.
