A mum who allegedly nudged an Insulate Britain activist with her range rover when the protestors blocked a road has been charged with assault.

The 34 years is set to appear in court in January accused of dangerous driving and assault over the incident on the M25 on October 13.

However, questions have emerged on why the protestors weren't charged.

Footage of the woman who has since been identified as Sherrilyn Speid shows her driving her vehicle into Insulate Britain activist Bethany Mogie at junction 31 of the motorway near Thurrock, on the north side of the Dartford Crossing which links Essex to Kent.

She then walks out of the car and angrily rants about being delayed taking her son to school.

Speaking to the press, Speid said the charges were "completely ridiculous" and pointed to the fact that Mogie, 39, has not been prosecuted for breaching a government injunction by sitting on the motorway.

She said: "This just feels completely ridiculous. Why are police and prosecutors giving into these people?

"A mum trying to take her son to school is not the one who should be facing the firm hand of the law.

"These Insulate Britain fools want it all their own way. Who is sticking up for normal people here?"

"I think it's disgusting that they were stopping working-class people from getting to work and their kids to school and now they're trying to prosecute a single mum."

The mental health specialist, of Grays, Essex, added: "I know I could have handled things in a better way, I have said that from the start, but I lost my temper and I was sticking up for all the other mums out there."

The charges come after seven Insulate Britain activists were spared jail on Thursday after a judge handed them suspended sentences for breaching a government injunction to stop protesters blocking roads.

Two activists, Dr. Diana Warner, 62, and Dr. Ben Buse, 36, were handed jail sentences.
