Popular British rapper Fredo, properly known as Marvin Bailey, has come out on the winning side of a legal battle in Dubai after being apprehended for possession of cannabis. He was looking at the prospect of fives years in prison in the United Arab Emirates with their stringent anti-drug laws, but luckily dodged it.
The popular artist was in Dubai custody for just over 5 months, and yesterday did a live on instagram documenting a little about his journey through the legal system, revealing that he was eating things like Chicken Biryani every day, and having to go to the toilet 'in a hole', with no physical toilet in his cell. He further mentioned to free "CM40", his friend who was with him at the time of arrest, and was actually sentenced to five years in jail.
The rapper even returned back onto social media with some new facial hair after his stint in Dubai jail, and asked fans if he should keep it or not!
Fredo's legal troubles began in September when he was allegedly caught concealing drugs during his time in Dubai. The artist was held in a Dubai jail since the incident. The United Arab Emirates, where Dubai is situated, maintains a strict zero-tolerance policy regarding illegal substances.
Possession of even a small quantity of illegal drugs in Dubai carries severe consequences, with a minimum three-month and a potential three-year prison term. In Fredo's case, there were reports suggesting he was face a five-year sentence.
The rapper had already been to court, and it was reported that he is currently appealing the proposed five-year prison sentence. The legal process in Dubai is known for its strict adherence to the law, and this time Fredo found himself lucky and successful against the Dubai attorneys.
