Stripper Hired for Nursing Home: "We are very sorry"

An elderly home in Taiwan has issued an apology after making arrangements for a stripper to perform for senior citizens in wheelchairs.

The Taoyuan Veterans Home, a state-run facility for retired army personnel in Tawain, paid the adult entertainer for a steamy show to celebrate Mid-Autumn Festival — an important holiday in Chinese culture, where people gather to celebrate the rice and wheat harvests of the season.

An attendee filmed the performance last Thursday which was posted on social media and went viral.

The steamy clip shows a masked-up erotic dancer in revealing lingerie giving an elderly man a lap dance.

The man however seems to be enjoying the performance and can be seen squeezing the woman's breasts as she dances for him.

Other residents clapped along enthusiastically and seemed to enjoy the show.

Despite this, the elderly home was hit was major backlash and has since released a statement saying: "The intention of the event was to entertain residents and make them happy. We are very sorry for the offence that was caused."

A spokesperson for the care facility added that the Autumn Festival parties had been cancelled at the nursing home in previous years due to the COVID pandemic.

They defended their choice to hire the stripper as a way to raise the residents' spirits.

However, they did admit that the erotic dancer's actions may have been "too enthusiastic and fiery, and that they would be "more cautious" when planning similar events in the future.

The celebrations also involved a more relaxed game of bingo as well as some karaoke in the room next to the nursing hall.

The Mid-Autumn Festival is one of the most important holidays in Asian culture. In China, the celebration is marked by reunions, thanksgiving for harvests, and prayers for good fortune.

This year's annual event fell on September 10, also known as the Moon Festival or Mooncake Festival.
