Two Premier League footballers have been apprehended over an alleged rape, sources reveal. Police arrived at the club’s stadium over the weekend.

One of the players, aged 19, was questioned on suspicion of assault and aiding and abetting a rape. Sources indicate that he was permitted to depart the stadium after a brief interview before being formally arrested.

Spending the night in custody, the player was later interrogated by detectives under caution. His teammate, also 19, was apprehended the following day and interrogated on suspicion of rape.

Authorities have confirmed that both players have been released on bail pending further investigations. The alleged incident is reported to have occurred on Friday night, with the purported victim filing a formal complaint hours later.

A police spokesperson stated, “Officers have arrested two men following a report of a rape. A 19-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assault and aiding and abetting a rape. A second 19-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of rape. Both men have since been released on police bail.” According to The Sun, one of the players was present at the club’s stadium when police arrived. He was taken to a private room within the ground for questioning before being formally arrested later that night.

Club insiders have disclosed that discussions regarding the “next steps” have already commenced. It remains unclear whether the players have been suspended pending the outcome of the police investigation.

A club spokesperson stated, “As the matter is now in the hands of the police, the Football Club will not be making further comment at this stage.”

The Premier League has faced a string of high-profile sex scandals involving top-flight players, including Manchester United striker Mason Greenwood, 22, who was suspended by the club in January 2022 after being arrested for attempted rape, assault, and controlling and coercive behaviour.
