A woman in Birmingham has died after a home was destroyed in a gas explosion on Sunday.A man, who was also in the property at the time of explosion, has been left with life-threatening injuries after neighbours got him out of the destroyed home.According to Sky News, the man mentioned to the police about a woman being inside the home. He was then taken to hospital.
Speaking about how he helped pull the man out of the home, a neighbour said: "Everyone was running. I ran into the house, through the back and I was helping everyone moving all the debris to get the man out.
"There was quite a lot of us. We were just doing our part.I heard that there was a woman in there too. Everyone's gutted. It was a rough night."Four other men were also treated for minor injuries and 21 people were evacuated from the area. Six homes have also been described as "seriously affected". Rick Payne, a city councillor for the ward, heard the explosion when it occurred after 8:30pm on Sunday. He told Sky News:
"I recognised that as probably most likely to be a gas explosion.The house itself, where the explosion occurred, has physically been destroyed. Houses either side have, partially."Then the houses further along the street have been damaged collaterally from the blast."The scene was attended by six fire crews, three ambulances, five paramedic officers anda National Inter-Agency Liaison officer.
Kashif Mahmoud was driving past the home with his wife and children when the explosion occurred, causing his car to be severely damaged.Mr Mahmoud said: "All the air bags came out and all the windows were broken."I thought something had happened to the car. (It was) really really scary and shocking."
