British online personality and rapper Andres Felipe Valencia Barrientos, best known by his stage name ‘Yung Filly’ has been charged over rape accusations in Australia whilst on tour.
Colombian-born Filly, who boasts more than 3 million followers on his Instagram alone, frequently collaborates with well known YouTube collectives including Beta Squad and Sidemen. Filly moved to the UK as a child and has since built a reputation for himself as a comedian and public personality (even bagging himself a 2021 MOBO award for best media personality) and has amassed a considerable net worth of over £750,000.
However, the 29-year-old success story remains in a free fall from grace, as the allegations (which he is yet to respond to) have been constantly deliberated on by an online jury of social media users since the news broke.
Filly was arrested in Brisbane on Tuesday, before being extradited back to Perth where the alleged crimes took place. The following day Filly attended his court hearing at Perth Magistrates Court, dressed in a casual grey jumper and speaking only to confirm his name, according to an Australian reporter.
His clothes and demeanour were in stark contrast to the severity of his charges, which were: four counts of sexual penetration without consent, three counts of assault occasioning bodily harm and one count of impeding a person's normal breathing or circulation by applying pressure on or to their neck.
It is alleged that the attack took place on Saturday September 28th and included one female victim in her 20s. The unnamed victim reported that Filly took her back to his hotel room, where the assault took place, after his performance at the Perth nightclub Bar1.
Despite the severity of the charges, Filly was later released on conditional bail which included a ban on contacting the alleged victim and a ban on posting to his 3.2 million Instagram followers, 3.2 million TikTok followers or 1.8 million YouTube subscribers about the case.
Western Australia Police released the following statement in the wake of the charges:
"This investigation is ongoing and Sex Assault Squad detectives urge anyone with information relating to this matter, or any similar incidents, to call Crime Stoppers,"
Filly’s representatives have been contacted for a statement but one is yet to be issued. His close friends and colleagues, perhaps the most notable amongst them being his co-host Chunkz, have also remained silent on the case.
