A body has been recovered from the River Thames during the police search for missing chemical attack suspect Abdul Shokoor Ezedi, according to the Met Police. A manhunt was launched after Ezedi targeted a mother and her two daughters with a 'corrosive substance' in Clapham on 31 January. Ezedi was presumed dead after CCTV captured him leaning over London's Chelsea Bridge. Police have said the clothing on the body led them to believe it was Ezedi.
Police launched a manhunt for Ezedi after he targeted a woman and her two young daughters with a 'corrosive substance' in Clapham on 31 January. His last known whereabouts were caught on CCTV, which saw the suspect leaning over London's Chelsea Bridge.
It was thought that Ezedi had entered the water in an attempt to take his own life, sparking police to launch a search in the River Thames. Although police have not formally identified the body, they said the 'distinctive' clothing on the body led them to believe the body was Ezedi's.
Commander Jon Savell said: "Based on the distinctive clothing he was wearing at the time of the attack and property found on his body, we strongly believe we have recovered the body of Ezedi.
"We have been in contact with his family to pass on the news."
He added that as they were not able to visually identify the body, dental records and DNA testing would be needed for identification and this "may take some time".
