Councillor Dominic Mbang has become the new Mayor of the Royal Borough of Greenwich. He is currently a ward councillor for Woolwich Dockyard and was first elected in May 2018.
Previously sitting on housing and anti-poverty committees, the Mayor is a Specialist Renal Nurse and Specialist Discharge Nurse at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust. Furthermore, he's also worked as a police officer.
Councillor Mbang is the borough's 12th Mayor since it was given royal borough status.
In a statement, he said: “It is a great privilege to be elected Mayor of our wonderful borough and I am looking forward to the year ahead. I can’t wait to meet our communities and hear about the wonderful work going on across Royal Greenwich – and of course fundraise for vital charities too.”
Councillor Mbang will be taking over from Councillor Leo Fletcher who successfully fundraised over £50,000 for the Greenwich and Bexley Community Hospice and Lymphoma Action during his time as the Mayor.
His wife, Mary Mbang, will serve as Mayoress, Cllr Jit Ranabhat - a ward councillor for Plumstead and Glyndon -will be the royal borough's Deputy Mayor.
