IMMIGRATION CRACKDOWN: NAIL BARS AND CAR WASHES UNDER SCRUTINY THIS SUMMER

Nail bars and car washes are set to feel the heat this summer as immigration officers prepare to ramp up enforcement action. This latest initiative, declared by Home Secretary Yvette Cooper, targets businesses suspected of employing illegal workers.

Cooper disclosed the new strategy by writing in the Sun on Sunday, revealing that the 1,000 civil servants who were previously assigned to the now-abandoned Rwanda scheme will now be employed in a robust "returns and enforcement programme". The initiative is designed to increase the return of those who have no legal right to remain in the country and ensure that immigration rules are upheld.

This enforcement campaign underscores Labour's continued commitment to border security, a top priority in their government mandate. The establishment of the Border Security Command, already rolled out under Labour's manifesto promises, marks a significant step in this direction.

Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer further highlighted the urgency of these measures at this week's European Political Community summit. By engaging in discussions on migration with European leaders, he signalled a willingness to consider offshore processing of migrants as part of the evolving immigration framework.

With a more aggressive stance towards businesses flouting the law, we can expect to see increased raids over the next few months. It remains a crucial period for individuals and businesses to ensure compliance with immigration regulations.
