The 31-year-old rapper, whose real name is Michael Ebenazer Owuo Junior, admitted to the offence in a letter to Wimbledon Magistrates' Court. The incident occurred on Addison Road in March last year.
District Judge Andrew Sweet criticised Stormzy’s driving as "dangerous and irresponsible," noting his poor record, which already included six penalty points for previous speeding offences.
The court heard that an off-duty officer had approached the rapper, knocking on his tinted passenger window and saying: "Get rid of your tints and get off your phone." Initially denying the allegations, Stormzy later changed his plea to guilty.
This is not the first time Stormzy has faced driving-related issues. In October, he admitted to driving a Lamborghini Urus with windows illegally tinted to only 4% light transmission—far below the legal requirement of 70%. Prosecutor Alice Holloway described the tint as dangerous, posing risks to vulnerable road users.
Following warnings, Stormzy removed the tints and apologised, but the judge imposed an additional fine of £2,010 alongside the ban, adding six more points to his licence.
Stormzy was not present in court during the proceedings but accepted full responsibility through his solicitor.
