Travis Scott's Astroworld: At Least 8 Dead and Hundreds Injured At Texas Festival

At least 8 people have died after a devastating night whilst Travis Scott performed at the 'Astroworld' Festival.

A crowd surge occurred, where a large group of fans pressed towards the front stage. This resulted in a wide range of injuries, and sadly, multiple deaths.

Ten of the attendees ended up in hospital after suffering from a cardiac arrest, whilst 8 passed away due to their injuries. Injuries were sustained by those as young as 10 years of age.

Lina Hidalgo, the county judge of Harris County, spoke about the "extremely tragic night" and said

"Our hearts are broken," she said. "People go to these events looking for a good time, a chance to unwind, to make memories - it's not the kind of event you go to where you expect to find out about fatalities."

At around 21:15, the tragic events took place. Houston Fire Chief Samuel Peea said:

"The crowd began to compress toward the front of the stage, and people began to panic," he told reporters.

As the crush began causing injuries to people, the panic grew, the official added.

During the performance, Travis stopped on a few different occasions when he saw fans panicking in the crowd. This led him to ask security to check on the fans in question, and emergency services eventually were seen coming through the crowd.

"Nobody could dream of this," said Houston Police Department Chief Troy Finner. "But we're here, and I think it's very important that none of us speculate. Nobody has all the answers tonight."
