Boris Johnson will reportedly stay on as an MP to protect his legacy in Brexit, levelling up and Ukraine
It's been reported that Boris Johnson will remain an MP when he finally leaves his prime minister position.A source told The Guardian that Johnson is planning 'to protect legacy' by staging parliamentary interventions on areas such as Brexit, Ukraine and levelling up.The source revealed that Johnson believes those three areas are part of his legacy and may not be taken as seriously by the next prime minister.
"It's both his right and his duty to speak out on Ukraine and he feels very conscious of that as a responsibility, they said," the source said.
"That will also happen if we get a successor who doesn't care any more about levelling up and is prepared to go back to the same old story that the north of England doesn't matter because it votes Labour, and Labour also take it for granted."
The current candidates who are in the race to become the next conservative leader are Rishi Sunak, Penny Mordaunt, Liz Truss, Kemi Badenoch and Tom Tugendhat.Suella Braverman, who recently exited the conservative leadership race, has given her backing to Liz Truss.
In a statement, she said: "I really encourage all of those MPs who put their faith in me to now transfer their support to Liz Truss."I think she's the best person to unite the party, to beat Kier Starmer, deliver on Brexit promises, protect freedom of speech, and make us proud to be Britons and proud to be Conservative."Rishi Sunak is currently in lead to become the next conservative leader.
