Following his arrest in June for conspiracy to import cannabis and conspiracy to supply cocaine, UK rapper Nines has now been jailed for two years.
Nines, whose real name is Courtney Leon Freckleton admitted that he tried to import £280,000 worth of cannabis into the country. It was alleged that he had helped import 28kg of cannabis worth £280k into the UK from Poland and Spain, using Bitcoin to close the deals.
He later admitted to the charges of conspiracy to import cannabis and money laundering but denied the charge of conspiracy to supply cannabis and cocaine, which was later dropped by the CPS.
The 31-year-old father of two was sentenced today alongside co-conspirator and business partner, Jason Thompson, 35, of Barnet, north London. Thompson pleaded guilty to the same charges and will also be jailed for 28 months.
Nines has landed a number one spot in the album charts for his record Crabs In A Bucket and has won two MOBO awards for Album of the Year and Best Hip-Hop Act.
