Myles Lewis-Skelly’s family has made history with a record-breaking goal on his England debut. The Arsenal youngster earned his first senior cap under newly appointed Three Lions manager Thomas Tuchel in a match against Albania at Wembley. It took just 20 minutes for the left-back to score after a brilliant pass from Jude Bellingham.
At just 18 years and 176 days old, Lewis-Skelly became the youngest player in history to score on his England debut. His family erupted with joy in the Wembley stands after his sensational opener. Following the game, Lewis-Skelly expressed his overwhelming emotions: “I’m speechless. I’m incredibly grateful to the manager for believing in me. This moment means the world to me. The fans made me feel welcome, and I truly appreciate their support.”
Tuchel was full of praise, stating: “He’s an extraordinary talent and a fantastic person. From the moment he joined the squad, it was easy to see why people admire him. His performance was fully deserved.” Captain Harry Kane later sealed a 2-0 victory, while Declan Rice also commended his Arsenal teammate Lewis-Skelly. Rice said: “He’s fearless. He conducts himself impeccably off the pitch, and he’s only 18. I had no doubt he would perform like that tonight because of his self-confidence. He remains humble, and this is just the beginning for him.”
Lewis-Skelly surpassed the previous record held by Marcus Rashford, who had achieved the feat at 18 years and 209 days against Australia in May 2016.
