Rishi Sunak and Kemi Badenoch have both announced their bid for Conservative leader and the next Prime Minister.
Both are ethnic minorities, Sunak being from Indian heritage and Bandenoch coming from Nigerian origin.
Sunak served as the Chancellor of the Exchequer (the government's chief financial minister) from 2020 to 2022 and before that was the Chief Secretary to the Treasury from 2019 to 2020.
Because he has been stationed in a high position of the financial side of the government, some are wary of his bid for Prime Minister due to the country being in the worst economic position seen in decades.
However, Sunak considers his past positions are useful experience. He said,
"I ran the toughest department in government during the toughest times when we faced the nightmare of COVID"
"Politics at its best is a unifying endeavour and I have spent my career bringing people together. Because that is the only way to succeed."
Kemi has served as Minister of State for Levelling Up Communities and Minister of State for Equalities between 2021 and 2022.
She also previously served as Minister for Women and Equalities for the United Kingdom.
Full name Olukemi Olufunto Badenoch, Kemi Badenoch has been an MP since 2017 and confirmed her candidacy in the Times, stating that she wants a "limited government" and to "the truth".
Meanwhile, Sunak admits that there are "huge challenges" in the UK but believes he is up for the job.
"Let's restore trust, rebuild the economy and reunite the country".
"My values are non-negotiable: patriotism, fairness, hard work."
"We've had enough of division."
Kemi Badenoch promises that if she were elected to Number 10, she would opt for a smaller state and a government who are "focused on the essentials".
Her policies would also including lowering taxes, alongside "tight spending".
There are currently 8 conservative MP's who have announced they"ll be in the race for the next Prime Minister.
