Tory MP caught "watching pornography in the Commons"
The Whips' Office has opened an investigation into claims that a Tory MP watched pornography on his phone in the House of Commons chamber. The male Conservative MP was seen watching the explicit content by two MPs, one of whom was reportedly a female minister. It is not known whether the MP was a frontbencher.MPs are understood to have reported their colleague's conduct to the Whips' Office. On Wednesday morning, it confirmed it has launched an investigation into the claims.Harriet Harman, a Labour MP and vice-chairman of the Women in Parliament all party parliamentary group, said: "I don't think anyone would think it's appropriate in any place of work for people to be watching porn."The standards committee is reviewing the MP code of conduct. It shouldn't be necessary to say "you're not to watch porn on phones in the House of Commons" - phones which are probably paid for by the taxpayer - but it might be that it has to be added."
'This behaviour is wholly unacceptable'
A Whips' Office spokesman said: "The Chief Whip is looking into this matter. This behaviour is wholly unacceptable and action will be taken."If the allegations are shown to be true, the MP could be investigated for a possible breach of the MPs' code of conduct, which states that members must not bring the House into disrepute.
