Alice Webb, a 33-year-old mum-of-five, has died in Gloucester after a liquid Brazilian butt lift procedure went wrong, leading to two arrests. Alice has become the first in the UK to die from the non-surgical procedure, which involves injecting hyaluronic acid and dermal fillers into the buttocks.
The dangerous and potentially fatal procedure is on the rise in the UK and is often advertised as both a risk-free and cheaper alternative to a surgical Brazilian butt lift.
However, Save Face, the foremost Government-endorsed register for medical aesthetic treatments, has repeatedly warned that “Liquid BBL procedures are a crisis waiting to happen”.
The organisation has shown mounting evidence that women are risking life-threatening complications with both surgical and non-surgical butt lifts. They revealed that, since 2022, more than 240 patients had suffered severe and potentially fatal issues such as infections, sepsis, and abscesses.
There’s no doubt social media has played a significant role in pushing unrealistic beauty standards on women and even more problematically, careless ways to reach them. This was further evidenced by the fact that 98% of beautymania victims, recorded by Save Face, found their practitioners on social media. Individuals who lack medical training are ripe on social media and the consequences of their damaging work have proved fatal for many people. According to Save Face, ALL of the patients who experienced serious and life-threatening complications, received treatment from medically unqualified individuals.
The beauty therapist died at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital early Tuesday morning, after allegedly receiving treatment from an unqualified practitioner who lacked medical training. Two people have been arrested on suspicion of manslaughter in connection with Webbs untimely death. Detectives from Gloucestershire Police state issued the following statement:
"Police had been called by the ambulance service at around 11.35pm on Monday (23 September) with a report a woman had become unwell following a suspected cosmetic procedure.
An investigation, led by the Major Crime Investigation Team, is ongoing. The two people who had been arrested have been released on police bail.”
Webb is survived by her partner Dane Knight and their five children. In the midst of his grief, her partner Dane posted the following statement to Facebook:
“ A heartfelt thank you to all family and friends that were here for us at our time of need, including all of the kind messages sent to my children and myself…
There was some very beautiful messages sent by some of your children that formed a start of a smile from the corner of my kids' mouths."
