Football club Leeds United have been ordered to pay footballer Jean-Kevin Augustin £24.5million in compensation
Leeds United have reportedly been ordered to pay their former player Jean-Kevin Augustin £24.5million in compensation for an alleged breach of contract. The club, who signed Augustin on loan in January 2020, were obligated to buy him if they were promoted to the Premier League that season; however, after achieving this, the club didn't sign him. According to The Athletic, the footballer took the case to FIFA's Dispute Resolution Chamber, who 'found partially in his favour'.
It's been said that the £24.5m payout will represent Augustin's full five-year contract on wages of around £80,000 a week. Leeds United have appealed against the decision and stated: "The club cannot comment on an ongoing legal matter. Another CAS hearing is set to take place due to the appeal, unless it's settled sooner .Augustin, who only played 48 minutes for Leeds United, now plays for Swiss Super League club Basel. Last year June, the club wrote: "FC Basel is pleased to record the arrival of Jean-Kevin Augustin for the next three seasons. The French striker arrives free from @FCNantes."
