MET OFFICE ISSUES HEALTH ALERT AS TEMEPERATURES SOAR TO 30.C ACROSS THE COUNTRY NEXT WEEK

After weeks of unseasonably cold weather, the UK is officially entering a heatwave. Yellow heat-health alerts will be in place for most of England this week. Britons are set to see daytime temperatures look set to reach 30C (86F).

However, a yellow warning indicates that weather conditions could pose a risk to those who are particularly vulnerable. The next few days are expected to bring the highest temperatures of the summer so far. Scotland and Northern Ireland are expected to see their warmest weather on Monday, with highs of 24 to 26C.But in England and Wales the heat is expected to be longer-lasting, with midweek temperatures of 28 or 29C likely in the South East. Our Residents were quick to embrace the prospect of hot weather in the coming week, but unsure why we need a health warning.

One Resident wrote on our Instagram page: “It’s not a health alert ffs.. why do they make everything a negative.. bring on the sun, vitamin D and good vibes.” Another added: “Let's just enjoy the weather and recharge the melanin that's all.” A third chimed in:“ Health alert uno. Do you know how many countries see these degreeson a normal ffs.”

Run by the UKHSA and the Met Office, the weather health alert system was first introduced in June 2023.They are typically issued between 1 June and 30 September. Cold-health alerts are normally between 1 November and 30 March. The warnings are guidance for members of the public, the government and other healthcare professionals during periods of adverse weather.
