The name James "Jimmy" Donaldson may as well be ‘John Smith’ to most people. However, if you went into a public place right now, you’d struggle not to bump into one of his 293 million YouTube subscribers.

Donaldson, better known by his online alias Mr Beast, is the most-subscribed to YouTuber by children and adults alike. Despite his monstrous name, Mr. Beast has proved to be one of the most philanthropic people in the world. He has become well known for his videos, in which he gives back on a very large scale. His philanthropy has included planting 24.7 MILLION trees and raising $30 million dollars (£23.7 million) to remove 30 million pounds of plastic and other litter from our oceans. His campaigns have left commentators recommending him for a ‘Nobel prize’ and has led to him being the recipient of numerous awards and accolades, including the Streamy Creator of the Year Award (for four consecutive years) and being named one of Time Magazine's top 100 most influential people.

In his latest ‘beastly’ plan, the multi-millionaire took his philanthropy to multiple countries, including Jamaica, Argentina, El Salvador, Mexico, and Colombia. In his latest video, Mr Beast travels to Jamaica, where he builds and then donates 100 fully furnished homes to people in need of them. At the beginning of the video, Mr Beast declares his intention to improve the ‘quality of life [of] families who don’t have a safe space to call home’ (he adds that in Jamaica there are currently over half a billion such people). He then goes on to do exactly that… one-hundredfold.

In a reveal reminiscent of Extreme Makeover Home Edition, the families screamed, cheered and cried after seeing their new fully-furnished homes; with one father declaring as he held back tears that he had always wanted his kids to have a bunk bed.

Mr Beast then helps a family who quite literally live in a homemade home on a mountain top. The beautiful family-of-five were in floods of tears when they saw their upgraded home, which included a crib for their newborn. Some of the homes Mr Beast rescued families from were life-threatening, with flash floods and rainwater compromising their stability.

With so many YouTubers dedicated to online pranks and video game reviews, Mr Beast has created a safe zone on YouTube far from what his account name implies. Naturally, along with his constant contributions to others, Mr Beast has accumulated a monstrous amount of wealth for himself too, with an estimated net worth of $500 million (£395 million).

In a cost of living crisis, housing crisis, economic crisis and every other type of crisis that has been conjured up, it can be difficult to reconcile the purpose of the ‘super rich’. Mr Beast has bridged that gap in a way last notably seen by Bill Gates and Warren Buffet (the latter of which has donated over $55 billion/£43.5 billion of his $128 billion dollars to charitable causes). I think it’s safe to say that Mr Beast will certainly be spared, should we ever eat the rich!
