A SURVEY HAS SHOWN THAT 20% OF MEN IN THE UK WEAR THE SAME UNDERWEAR FOR A WEEK

The new study into the laundry habits of the nation show the extent to which men put off doing their washing. The study, by Currys asked how often Brits wash certain items of clothing.

The survey of over 2,000 UK residents revealed that although the majority (54 per cent) said they wash their underwear after each wear, a shocking one in five men admitted to washing theirs after wearing them for a week. Worryingly, five per cent claim they will stretch this to two to three weeks of wear.

This in stark contrast to the 81 per cent of women who answered after every wear, and only nine per cent after a week of wearing.

As unhygienic as it may seem, it could seem that nowadays, delaying washing items could be as a result of the ongoing cost of living crisis. With water, energy and grocery prices going up, this be the result into why people are putting off their laundry.

The survey showed that 36 per cent of people in the UK have had to change their washing habits due to rising costs.

50% of Brits are now consciously washing at a lower temperature and generally using the washing machine less to help cut costs. Around a third have also switched to cheaper priced cleaning products.

The Energy Saving Trust says washing clothes at 30 degrees rather than higher temperatures will save around 40 per cent of the energy used each year. This can translate to hundreds of pounds saved off your bills. Modern washing powders and detergents work just as effectively at lower temperatures, so a simple change could have a huge impact on finances.
