Actress Laverne Cox has made history by becoming the first transgender barbie doll. Laverne, who will be turning 50 soon, is best known for playing the role of Sophia Burset on Netflix's Orange Is The New Black.The actress said: "So many trans girls grow up wishing we had dolls to play with, now there's one made especially for us."She went on to say: "I can't wait for fans to find my doll on shelves and have the opportunity to add a Barbie doll modeled after a transgender person to their collection."I hope that people can look at this Barbie and dream big like I have in my career. The space of dreaming and manifesting is such a powerful source and leads you to achieve more than what you originally thought was possible.
"As a child, Laverne was shamed for wanting a barbie. However, she eventually got one years later after seeking therapy.Speaking about how she bought a barbie for the first time, she said: "I went out and bought a Barbie doll and played with her and dressed her and it was a way for me to heal my inner child."She also said that her mother later got her a barbie doll for Christmas. Laverne added: "It's incredibly meaningful for me to have my Barbie doll for so many reasons."I hope that kids of all gender identities can look at this Barbie and dream.
