PAPAYA EX SPARKS DEBATE WITH BOLD OUTFIT AT JUMA JUX AND PRISCILLA OJO’S WEDDING

If there’s one thing Nigerians agree on, it’s that when it comes to weddings, the dress code is always go big or go home. Popular influencer and fashion model Papaya Ex made a dramatic entrance at the lavish traditional wedding of Priscilla Ojo and Tanzanian artist Juma Jux, which took place in Lagos last month. The event was star-studded, drawing celebrities from both the Nigerian and Tanzanian entertainment scenes, including Toyin Abraham, Peter Okoye, Korede Bello, Diamond Platnumz, and more.

But while the guest list was the who's who of Nigerian culture, it was Papaya Ex’s outfit that truly stole the show — and the spotlight online. She wore a custom dress that featured the bride and groom’s faces printed on it. While some fans saw it as a creative and affectionate gesture, others were quick to criticise the placement of the images — specifically, Juma Jux’s face printed on her chest, and Priscilla’s face near her waist.

The move drew mixed reactions across social media, with some calling it attention-seeking and others calling it disrespectful. The backlash intensified when a video went viral showing actress Toyin Abraham allegedly trying to tear the groom’s photo off the dress mid-ceremony. Priscilla Ojo herself — a social media influencer and daughter of Nollywood actress Iyabo Ojo — confronted Papaya in the middle of the festivities. In the now-viral clip, she asked pointedly: “Why did you put my husband’s picture on your chest?” Papaya responded with a laugh, saying, “I’m sorry baby, na because I love you.” Later, she admitted the outfit was intentionally provocative, crafted “to gain attention online.”

When we posted the video on The Shade Borough's Instagram page, our Resident's were quick to offer their opinion. One Resident commented, "She could have put it other way round." Another added, "Papaya got the clout she wanted. now she’s here exactly what she wanted." A third chimed in, "no sorry I would ask her to change or leave."
