On the 25th of February Boris Johnson addressed the nation live after the confirmation of the full-scale militant attack against Ukraine, orchestrated by Russia.
The invasion included the deployment of troops from three separate fronts and over one hundred missiles were targeted at several locations near the capital, Kyiv.
Tensions between the two countries had been increasing rapidly over the past number of days, resulting in the largest escalation since the beginning of the Russo-Ukrainian War, which began in 2014 and is ongoing.
Johnson describes "our mission clear", declaring this county's full commitment to the support of our European allies, specifying that British involvement will be demonstrated "diplomatically, politically, economically and 'eventually', militantly"
He describes Putin's decision to invade Ukraine as a "hideous and barbaric venture" and overall a threat to democracy, freedom, and Britain.
The Prime Minister then addresses his speech to the citizens of Russia by urging them to consider severely whether or not they really agree with the violent regime of their President and their impending consequences.
Social media users have shared online their reactions to this world-changing news, with many finding comfort through relatable dark jokes which are currently circling the internet and making light of the potential-terrifying future of humanity.
Mr Johnson had posted this statement on Twitter earlier that day: "President Putin has chosen a path of bloodshed and destruction by launching this unprovoked attack on Ukraine."
Whilst the future remains very unknown, we can hope we see as little bloodshed and destruction as possible.
