England players could face the axe for the World Cup Squad if they refuse to take the Covid vaccine.

England Squad

The World Cup will take place in Qatar on the 21st of November. Under current regulations, any unvaccinated player will have to self-isolate for five days following their arrival into the country.England's first game will be against Iran and fall on the opening day of the competition.

This is just six days after their scheduled arrival into Qatar and consequently players who are forced to isolate will miss the teams training sessions.According to the Daily Mail, this has led Gareth Southgate, the teams manager, to consider leaving out several players from his World Cup squad if they refuse to take the Covid vaccine. Currently, there are several players who have yet to be vaccinated and could be removed from the squad.

This is something that Chelsea and Crystal Palace have undertaken during their pre-season tours.Patrick Vieira, the manager of Crystal Palace, had to go without several players, including: Wilfried Zaha, Eberechi Eze, Marc Guehi and Michael Olise. However, Fifa is reportedly lobbying with Qatar to relax its Covid vaccine rules ahead of the tournament.Back in late January, the Premier League revealed that 80% of top-flight players in England were fully-vaccinated, however, they have still yet to provide an update on these figures.
