Former Manchester United star, Ryan Giggs, has been accused of assaulting ex-girlfriend Kate Greville.
Prosecutor Andrea Griffiths said there was a pattern of "controlling behaviour" from the ex-United star.
Between 2017 and 2020, he is said to have isolated Kate from her work colleagues and friends; and subjected her to degrading treatment designed to "keep her in the relationship."
The court heard that Giggs allegedly kicked the victim in the back as well as throwing her out of their hotel room naked.
He is also alleged to have deliberately head-butted his ex-girlfriend during the incident.
However, the 47 year old Wales manager denies any wrongdoing. At his previous appearance in the dock at Manchester Magistrates' Court, he entered a not guilty plea on all three charges levelled against him.
His case was referred to the crown court due to its complexity.
Giggs went public with his relationship with Ms Greville in 2018; just months after he finalized a £40 million divorce with a wife of 10 years in December 2017.
Since his arrest last year, he has missed Wales' Nations League fixtures, and the Football Association of Wales (FAW) announced a new caretaker boss; Robert Page for his club.
He is now said to have found love again with lingerie model; Zara Charles, 33 - who has supported him throughout the trial.
