‍Live from the palace: Kate Middleton has issued an apology after admitting to ‘editing’ her recent Mother’s Day picture herself

Kate Middleton has apologised for editing her recent Mother's Day photo in a statement posted on from Kensington Palace social media account. Just minutes after the photograph was released many people took to social media to voice their concerns that the photograph had been edited or even artificially created. Later the same day, multiple news agencies pulled the image further substantiating that it had been altered. One news outlet counted at least 17 problems with the image, including the widely circulated gap in Princess Charlotte’s red sleeve.

The controversy has come after months of concerns that the public had not seen Kate since her ‘abdominal surgery’ which allegedly occurred in January. Social media had begun speculating the reason for her apparent absence.

Theories for Kate's absence have ranged from divorce proceedings as a result of Williams alleged affair with Rose Hanbury (former model and Marchioness) to a much more controversial theory that the Princess has been recovering from a Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) surgery.

Despite her public apology, many have called on the palace to release the unedited photo and have argued that the tweeted apology has given further rise to concerns that ‘Kate Middleton is NOT OKAY’.

One photographer stated that it was ‘astonishing that Kensington Palace released’ the photograph, whilst others have argued that the royal family editing themselves in images is nothing new and was commonly done in painted Medieval portraits.

However, there has been no occasion throughout royal history where a royal has taken credit for editing their own portrait or family photo. Kate, whose last confirmed public sighting was on Christmas day, would be expected to make a public appearance alongside her husband today in honour of the 75th Commonwealth anniversary as she has done in previous years, so far there has been no confirmation that she will.
