A couple who planned to get married on December 29th in Nigeria have been left stressed after the country was placed on the government's Red List, meaning they will have to quarantine for 10 days after the completion of their trip.
The news comes after the couple have already spent £15k on clothing, jewellery and deposits for their special day.
The red list means anyone coming back to the UK from Nigeria will need to quarantine for 10 days in a managed hotel, costing £2,285 per person, in a bid to slow down the spread of the new Omicron variant of coronavirus.
The couple have expressed that these new circumstances will cost them at least £20k as they have big families in the UK who were all planning to make the trip for the wedding.
Urenna and Emmanuel got engaged in February this year after getting together just before lockdown early last year and have said to have spent most of their relationship in lockdown, and Urenna says she just wants them to "get on with their lives".
Alongside the £15k spent on the traditional wedding, the couple will also be spending £25,000 on their English wedding next summer.
They chose December for the traditional wedding as their family would already be flying back home to spend Christmas with their loved ones, therefore making it the ideal time.
Urenna said:
"We booked hotel rooms for guests, money we can't get back if this doesn't go ahead, it's a nightmare.
"The past few days have been very stressful, finding out alternative solutions, I've barely slept since Saturday evening, I don't want to dwell too much on the problems, right now we are thinking of solutions.
"I have a very big family so quarantine would be an extra £20,000!"
The red list is set to be reviewed every three weeks, making the next review on December 20.
