A father took a bold stand against recent XL bully breed laws by staging a lone protest at his local pub—sipping his drink through a specially designed muzzle. Eamonn Mcgeady, aged 51, accompanied by his six-month-old dog Lexi, both donning matching protective guards, made a striking statement during their visit to the Straw Hat establishment.
Upon entering, Eamonn settled at the bar, ordered a pint, and opted to consume it using a straw inserted through his muzzle.
Elle, his 19-year-old daughter, expressed pride in her father's unconventional demonstration against the newly implemented legislation concerning the breed. She joined her father and their dog at the pub on New Year's Day. Elle, an apprentice engineer from Chester, articulated her stance, saying, "I simply don't support the use of muzzles."
"We would be fine walking her while she's leashed, but the muzzle is distressing. It's disheartening to witness. She now hides when it's time for a walk because she associates it with having to wear the muzzle," she added.
"Other dogs want to bully her now that she’s on a lead with a muzzle on. Before people would come up and give her a stroke and a pat but now we’re getting more evil looks off people instead.
“We got to the pub and everyone was laughing about it - I was proud [of him] and happy to see him wearing it. Dad was drinking pints using a straw through the muzzle and getting on the floor with Lexi to play around with her.
The regulations concerning XL bully breeds have sparked widespread debate and concern among dog owners and advocates. Recent legislation has imposed stringent rules, including mandatory muzzling, for certain breeds deemed as XL bullies. Critics argue that such measures unfairly stigmatize these dogs and overlook their individual behavior and temperament.
