Manchester City's Benjamin Mendy Charged With Seventh Count of Rape

Manchester City left back and France international footballer has been charged with a further count of rape and is set to appear in court in a hearing this Wednesday, December 22.

The 27-year-old was already facing six allegations of rape and one of sexual assault but was charged last week with a seventh rape charge.

The rape allegations also forced the football club to suspend the player's pending police investigations. Benjamin Mendy has also been suspended by the Premier League champions pending the outcome of the criminal proceedings.

The footballer who lives in Prestbury, near Macclesfield, northwest England is accused alongside his co-defendant, 40-year-old Louis Saha Matturie to have committed the offences against five different women back in 2020 and this year.

Both men were remanded in custody after a 40-minute hearing. Their trial, which was scheduled to take place in January, was put back to later next year.

He has been in custody since August 27 and has applied for bail three times, but his requests have all been rejected.
