Social media has been set ablaze after London-based influencer shared her shocking experience at a hair appointment with a stylist known as Mulan’s Hair. The incident, which has sparked outrage across multiple platforms, involved the influencer being forced to leave mid-appointment after voicing discomfort about Mulan's home salon’s lack of heating. The influencer booked a £150 sew-in appointment with Mulan’s Hair, expecting a professional service. However, the situation took a bizarre turn when she arrived and found the space freezing cold due to a broken heater.
The influencer claims she only expressed discomfort once, however Mulan allegedly berated her, questioning whether she was anemic and criticising her body language for making her "uncomfortable." Mulan then offered the influencer her coat but refused to let her wear her shoes, further escalating the tension. The hairstylist then stated that she couldn’t warn every client about the heating issue as she had too many appointments. Instead of accommodating her, Mulan accused the influecner of having expectations that were "too high" and deemed her outfit inappropriate for the cold environment.
In a shocking turn of events, Mulan ultimately canceled the influencer appointment—not for any issue with payment or scheduling, but simply because she was too cold. She forced the influencer to leave the premises with only one track loosely threaded to her hair and a sew-in cap, leaving her unfinished and humiliated and in tears. The incident has ignited fury online, with many users condemning Mulan’s lack of professionalism and customer service.
The influencer known as Kady shared her experience on TikTok, captioning the video: "Unfortunately my experience with Mulans Hair was quite horrific and incredibly unprofessional. Ultimately, I tried to reason with someone who chose to react instead of respond." She followed up with another pointed remark: "Maybe if I was a Love Islander, I would have been catered to lol. Hairstylists in the comments." Mulan's Hair is a popular stylist with reality stars including Indiyah Polack.
Many social media users, including popular commentators, chimed in. Oloni wrote on X (formerly Twitter) summed up the general sentiment: "If you have no heating in your house and you’re talking to me, you need to address me with your inside voice. In fact, whisper. "Influencer Miss R Fabulous also weighed in, calling out the wider issue within the UK hairstyling industry: "UK hairstylists need to be checked. Why do they treat influencers better?"
This incident has reignited discussions about the professionalism of hairstylists in the UK, particularly those who operate from home salons or independent businesses. Many customers have shared similar experiences of stylists failing to provide basic customer service, enforcing inconsistent policies, or prioritising influencers over regular clients.
