Serving Met Police Officer Wayne Couzens Charged With The Murder Of Sarah Everard

Wayne Couzens, a serving officer of the Metropolitan Police has now been charged with the murder of 33-year-old Sarah Everard.

Sarah Everard went missing when she walked home from her friends home on Wednesday (March 3rd)

On Wednesday, Scotland Yard confirmed that human remains were found near a woodland in Ashford, Kent during the investigation. On Friday, the remains were confirmed to be those of the late Sarah Everard.

The Met have also confirmed that Wayne had been taken to hospital for a second time in a 48 period since going into custody for head injuries.

The officer works in the Parliamentary and Diplomatic Protection Command and was arrested on suspicion of Kidnap on Tuesday Night.

Rosemary Ainslie, head of special crime at the CPS, said: "Following a referral of evidence by the Metropolitan Police related to the death of Sarah Everard, the CPS has authorised the police to charge Wayne Couzens with murder and kidnapping.

"He will appear at Westminster magistrates' court tomorrow (13 March) for his first hearing.

"The function of the CPS is not to decide whether a person is guilty of a criminal offence, but to make fair, independent and objective assessments about whether it is appropriate to present charges to a court to consider.

"Criminal proceedings are now active and nothing should be published that could jeopardise the defendant's right to a fair trial."

Our thoughts are with the family of Sarah Everard at this difficult time.
