TORY LANEZ OFFICIALLY TRANSFERRED TO STATE PRISON TO BEGIN HIS 10-YEAR SENTENCE

Canadian hip-hop artist Tory Lanez was sentenced to 10 years in prison Tuesday for shooting Megan Thee Stallion after an alcohol-fueled argument in the Hollywood Hills in 2020.

Lanez, whose legal name is Daystar Peterson, was convicted of assault with a firearm, illegal possession of a firearm and negligent discharge of a gun last December after a dramatic trial that featured tearful testimony from Megan Thee Stallion and a key witness requesting immunity shortly before stonewalling prosecutors on the stand.

In addition to accusations that he personally used a firearm and caused serious bodily damage, a jury found Lanez guilty of assault with a semiautomatic pistol, shooting a firearm with gross negligence, and keeping a loaded, unregistered handgun in a moving vehicle on December 23.

Seven months later, Lanez's request for a new trial was rejected by Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge David Herriford following a change in Lanez's legal counsel. The judge eventually gave Lanez's legal team a continuance and moved the sentencing date to August 7 so that Lanez's attorneys would have more time to prepare. Lanez's sentencing was initially scheduled for June 13.

Since bringing her accusations against Lanez to light in August 2020, Megan, 28, has been caught in the center of a tempest. In October 2020, Lanez was accused of having a concealed, unregistered firearm in a vehicle and committing felony assault with a semiautomatic weapon.

Lanez received a 305-day credit for time served while being sentenced to ten years in jail.
