Oleksandr Uysk, Ukrainian boxer, has made boxing history after becoming the first undisputed heavyweight champion beating British boxer, Tyson Fury on Saturday night in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

The judges scored Uysk 115-112 and 114-113 to Fury, however the final card was the ultimate decider which read 114-113 for Uysk.

The start of the fight saw Fury, who had appeared to be in great shape whilst being 6ft 9in tall, and a few stones heavier this gave him an advantage which created a lot of discussion with watchers worldwide on who they believe would win.

It has been 25 years since undisputed heavyweight champion was crowned, since Lennox Lewis’ reign. With both competitors being having collected all the major titles between them, this fight was due to be monumental.

Fury had initially refused to even look at his rival at press conference on Thursday, however launched head-first into him at Friday’s press conference.

The fight was scheduled for a vigorous 12 rounds, however the fight got more intense from round seven as Fury was dominating. Uysk changed the complexion of the fight as he hurt Fury in the ninth round, seeing his advantage Uysk went all in the final round, his lead hook striking Fury’s jaw.

After his victory, Uysk became emotional stating that he was thankful for his team and that his win is “A big opportunity for my country” as well as his family. He continues by sharing that his “people will be very happy” and spoke about how much he misses his late father by his side when boxing.

Fury thought the decision should have gone in his favour as he declared that he believes he won the fight and overall won more of the rounds and is demanding a rematch and alluding to the fact Usyk won the the fight due to bias towards Ukraine.
