The United States has killed Al-Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahiri in a drone strike, President Joe Biden has said.The leader, 71, who plotted the 9/11 attacks with Osama Bin Laden, was killed by the CIA ina counter-terrorism operation. He died on Sunday 31 July in Afghanistan'scapital Kabul.President Joe Biden saidal-Zawahiri had "carved a trail of murder and violence against American citizens".

He added: "From hiding, he co-ordinated al-Qaeda's branches and all around the world, including setting priorities for providing operational guidance and calling for and inspired attacks against US targets.

"Now justice has been delivered and this terrorist leader is no more."

Biden also stated: "Now, justice has been delivered and this terrorist leader is no more. People around the world no longer need to fear the vicious and determined killer."The United States continues to demonstrate our resolve and our capacity to defend the American people against those who seek to do us harm."We make it clear again tonight, that no matter how long it takes, no matter where you hide, if you are a threat to our people, the United States will find you and take you out."Ayman al-Zawahiri, who was a doctor, took over Al-Qaeda in 2011 after the death of Osama Bin Laden.
