A couple’s wedding day has come under scrutiny as many social media users took objection to the bride not wearing a wig or make up on her big day. The happy coupled posed together in snaps that were shared to X formally known as Twitter. The groom opted to wear a grey suit with a blue tie as he beamed at his new bride. Meanwhile, the bride opted to wear a lace white bridal gown that was off the shoulder. She held onto her rose bouquet as she posed sweetly with her husband, without the need for makeup or extensions. While many praised the bride for embracing the natural look, others felt that a wedding should be a day to dress for the occasion.
After the pictures were posted on The Shade Borough's Instagram page, the comments from our Residents was mixed. "This is not a matter of natural hair vs fake hair. This is to comb vs not to comb!" one person wrote. A second disagreed, writing: "It’s their day, they both love each other, what’s everyone’s problem?" A third commented: "Bro woke up sis and sent her straight to the alter." A fourth agreed by writing: "Don't need a wig or makeup, but at least brush your damn hair." But another user reminded everybody, "Remember she’s married and you don’t even have an admirer or a boyfriend."
Last year, a report by World Afro Day titled "Workplace Hair Acceptance’" revealed that bias against Afro hair in the workplace is likely to cost jobs. They suggested a “hierarchy of hairstyles” from more Eurocentric decreasing to Afrocentric styles is commonplace across offices. 84 per cent of 1,000 decision-makers from the UK and US, including CEOS and managers, told researchers straight hair on a woman was appropriate in all circumstances.
