A SIT DOWN WITH BEN - LOVER OF TECH

A SIT DOWN WITH BEN - LOVER OF TECH

Technology is progressively dominating various aspects of our lives, from communication and work to entertainment and healthcare, reshaping industries, economies, and societies worldwide. With advancements in artificial intelligence, automation, and connectivity, technology is revolutionising how we live, work, and interact. From smart devices and algorithms streamlining tasks to virtual reality and augmented reality transforming experiences, the influence of technology continues to expand rapidly, fundamentally altering the way we perceive and navigate the world around us.

We had a quick chat with Benjamin Aboagye, the Founder of Lover Of Tech Media which is a Media production company that produces content around Technology, Automotive and Production in video, photos and written format across various platforms such as YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, X(formerly known as Twitter) and also on his own personal website.

1. How do you see the purpose of technology in our lives in the modern day?

I feel the purpose of technology as a whole is to help make life easier and more convenient. If you look at the most personal piece of tech we all carry and have with us always, which is the smartphone, it’s able to do so many things as an all in one device beyond just phone calls, that saves us so much time and allows us to stay connected in more ways than one.

In the modern days of old, if you wanted to transfer money to someone, it would be what felt like a day trip to the bank in a long queue before you could make that happen. Now, it’s as simple as opening your banking app and done.

2. Where do you see Tech moving forward?

The push and introduction of A.I is a massive consideration at the moment. Some may know it as Artificial Intelligence, from the movies we’ve grown up watching like iRobot (a personal favourite) or branded under marketing from some companies as Advanced Intelligence. However you see it, this seems to be the way Tech is moving forward and so far with the uptick of services and platforms like ChatGPT, it’s definitely not slowing down anytime soon.

Consider the release of Samsung new top end phones in January 2024, everything was based around what they call Galaxy A.I, which is a slew of software features using A.I to make life easier. Take for example their “live translate” feature, this uses A.I to translate a live phone call from one language to another, say English to Korean in real time. Amongst things to consider, such as the ethics of what A.I will bring, it looks like there is more to come and it’s here to stay.

3. When did you know Tech was a passion of yours and how did you make it a lifestyle/career?

Tech as a passion for me came from a very young age from when I was a kid in Ghana. This actually happen when my best friend at the time was lucky enough to be the first person in our town to have an original SEGA Mega Drive games console and the first time experiencing games like Sonic and Mortal Kombat, unlike my other friends who were happy to just be playing the game, I was way more interested in the tech inside the console that was allowing us to play the games we were enjoying.

From there, it was always something that stuck with me from getting my first phone the Nokia 3310, building my first Gaming PC from scratch in 2006, to my 1st smartphone the iPhone 3G back in 2008, next to being heavy into sports, tech has been a big part of who I am.

How tech and more recently automotive became a career in which I am grateful to be on the journey of working for myself and building my own brand Lover Of Tech Media, really came down to the “gift” that was lockdown 2020 and the unfortunate turn of events of being made redundant from working for a well known Smartphone brand “OnePlus” in what I felt was a good working position and environment as Head National Training Manager. Although I had started my own YouTube Channel back in 2016, it was something I never pushed too hard next to my day job until not having a day job in June 2020. Having the natural passion and love for express my knowledge for Tech, Cars, Gaming and more, I decided to take the chance, bet on myself and grow Lover Of Tech to a place where I can call my own and in due time have a team of like minded Tech Lovers to share their passion as well. So far having the best year in 2023 across all our social platforms, 2024 and beyond is looking even better.

4. How do you maintain letting Tech work for you and not against you on a day to day basis?

The best is to utilise some of the features built into our smart devices that help us feel less distracted when using the tech we have around us on a daily basis. From features like Do Not Disturb, Focus modes, and Screen time features that help limit the time spent on devices like your smartphones, these are all features we have access to when it comes to our personal tech devices we use on a daily basis.

5. How long could you go without using your phone?

I think I could go for between 2 to 4 weeks without using my phone. I would say the determining factor what me in a nice natural based destination like a tropical island with amazing weather and activates that would help me disconnect from the hectic fast paced world around to really make it easy to stay away from my phone and also make me embrace the joys of the natural world around me. If not and I am in the same environment, it would probably be a short week lol.

iPhone or Android?

Android of course. I definitely understand the status and appeal of iPhones in general due to iOS features like iMessage and Facetime, as a whole I like the flexibility and outright feature set you get from Android phones, from faster battery charging, superzoom cameras, higher quality screen and more. I respect iPhones but I am definitely more of an Android person no doubt.
