A woman was arrested following an anonymous tip that exposed her attempt to smuggle nearly one kilogram of cocaine (890 grams), valued at £850,000, concealed within her wig.
The woman, arriving from Entebbe, Uganda, landed at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport from Nairobi, Kenya, on December 19th.
A Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) official said the woman was found to be carrying 890 grams of cocaine - worth £844,699 - which she had concealed in her wig and her bra.
Upon discovery, she revealed that she had been promised payment for delivering the contraband in the city to a designated recipient, but the authorities swiftly intervened, putting an end to her smuggling attempt.
Using a razor, they cut through until they discover a concealed stash within the woman's curls. As one worker cuts away, another two help out by ripping the wig apart as the woman lies on the floor. DRI officials said that they had 'busted numerous modus operandi' in the past ranging from concealment methods like sanitary pads concealment, liquid cocaine in whisky bottles, black cocaine and cocaine in moisturiser bottles.
The Times of India reports that the woman was also hiding cocaine in her bra as well as her wig.
The drugs were seized under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act 1985 and the woman is being held in custody while investigators probe.
