The popular song contest, Eurovision, has made an exciting announcement for its 2024 line-up, and it involves the Caribbean. The competition is set to take place at the Malmö Arena in Sweden and has generated a buzz among fans on Instagram.
The official Eurovision account announced: "NEW YEAR! NEW NEWS! We're delighted to confirm that THE CARIBBEAN is coming to the Eurovision Song Contest 2024." The announcement strongly implies that the Caribbean, a subregion of North America with over 700 islands, will make its iconic and unexpected debut in the contest. One of its 13 independent countries, such as Jamaica, Barbados, or The Bahamas, might even grace the stage for the sensational collaboration.
In December, the contest unveiled the stage design through a video teaser, shared on the official Eurovision Song Contest page. The caption read: "Greetings, good people of Europe and beyond... Welcome to the #Eurovision2024 stage!" Simultaneously, Olly Alexander, frontperson of the pop group Years & Years, was revealed as the UK's representative for Eurovision during the Strictly Come Dancing final.
Expressing his excitement, he told host Claudia Winkleman, "I love Eurovision so much; it's a dream come true." Last year the UK was represented by none other than Mae Muller, however her song, amusingly titled "I Wrote A Song" landed the UK is the sore position of second to last; a stark contras to the previous year where Sma Ryder's performance launched Britain to second place.
